The Ohio Criminal Justice Research Conference brings together government, academic, and independent researchers interested in crime, criminals, and criminal justice issues. This venue allows researchers the opportunity to share ideas with others and improve the dialogue for future research in the state.

Registration

Registration is closed.  If you are unable to attend once you have registered, you will be billed $30 for the cost incurred by the State unless you cancel by close of business on March 30, 2007 or find a replacement. 


Guest Speaker:

Richard P. Seiter, Ph.D.
Richard P. Seiter is a career corrections professional, having worked in prisons and for corrections agencies for thirty years.  Following receipt of his Ph.D. in Public Administration from The Ohio State University, he was a research associate and then Assistant Director of the Program for the Study of Crime and Delinquency at OSU.

In 1976 he began a career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP).  Dr. Seiter served in a variety of roles with the BOP including the Assistant Director for Industries, Education and Training, Chief Operating Officer of Federal Prisons Industries, and Warden of two federal correctional institutions.  He was also named the first Chief of the NIC National Academy of Corrections in Boulder, Colorado.  Dr. Seiter served as Director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction for six years.

Following his work in the field of corrections, Dr. Seiter was an Associate Professor and Director of the Criminal Justice Programs at St. Louis University.  Currently, Dr. Seiter is employed by Corrections Corporation of America as Executive Vice President and Chief Corrections Officer.

Dr. Seiter is the former editor of Corrections Management Quarterly and has authored several articles.  He has also written two textbooks on corrections, Corrections: An Introduction (2005) and Correctional Administration: Integrating Theory and Practice (2002).

Call for Papers

We would like to invite all Criminal Justice and Criminology Scholars to present papers at the 2007 Conference. This year the conference theme is Understanding Criminal Justice Practice:  The Value of Research.  The program consists of several areas, which include Corrections, Juvenile Justice, Community Corrections, Policing, Sentencing and Courts, and Mental Health in Criminal Justice.

Additionally we will be offering presenters the opportunity to publish their papers on the Ohio Offenders Research Connection (OORC) web site.  The OORC is a repository for research papers on Ohio's offender population including prisoners, parolees, probationers, youthful offenders, and other offender groupings.  If you are interested in publishing your paper on this forum, please e-mail Stephanie Eich.

The deadline for submission is February 28, 2007.
