2012 Teacher of the Year

The Ohio Central School System (OCSS) is honored to announce Deborah Turner, Southeastern Correctional Institution, as the 2012 Correctional Education Association Teacher of the Year.  Deborah earned her Associates in Accounting in 1987, Bachelors in Secondary Education in 1992, Masters in the Art of Teaching in 2005, and is currently pursuing a Masters in Special Education.  “If I change one student’s way of thinking so that he/she becomes a positive citizen in the world when she/he returns to society, then I have changed many lives that I will never know about…”, states Turner.

National Teacher Day

The Ohio Central School recognizes the teaching staff for demonstrating professional excellence in the challenging field of correctional education.  National Teacher Day is an important occasion for the Department.  It honors the contributions made by all OCSS staff to help students succeed.  On this day, OCSS honors its employees and takes the time to demonstrate gratitude for their achievements.  Many outstanding educational programs and accomplishments take place in the school every day.  The dedication of OCSS staff is recognized for the effort they put forth in helping students develop skills that will last a lifetime and enabling those who cross our doors to reenter society as productive citizens. Denise L. Justice, OCSS Superintendent, honored National Teacher Day on May 7, 2013.

The Ohio Central School System is pleased to highlight the teaching staff and students who participated in the Sacajawea Center graduation/recognition ceremony held at the Franklin Pre-Release Center (FPRC) located in Columbus, Ohio.  In fiscal year 2008, the FPRC Sacajawea Center was pleased to report:

  • A total of 25 women completed the Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) program, with six still present to participate in the ceremony.
  • A total of 28 women completed the Pre- General Educational Development (GED) program, with 11 still remaining at FPRC.
  • A total of 27 women completed the Vocational Drafting program, with 14 still at FPRC.
  • A total of 33 women completed the Graduation Reality and Dual Roles (GRADS) program, with 12 still at FPRC (focus is on family-related issues).
  • A total of 36 women earned their GED, with 17 still at FPRC.
