The Sherwood Anderson School is located on the grounds of the Grafton Correctional Institution (GCI), and serves an average of 1,526 minimum, medium and close security inmates. The GCI Sherwood Anderson School is proud to commit to the following educational programs:
The Sherwood Anderson School is pleased to highlight its Horticulture Program. Students in the program not only create and maintain the landscaping at GCI, they grow vegetables for donation to local food banks. Thousands of pounds of food have already been donated to such organizations. Certified Career-Technical students participating in vocational programs finish a minimum of 600 hours of hands-on, intensive training, including field-specific testing at program completion.
Mirroring the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction’s philosophy of inmates “Going Home to Stay”, education, re-entry, and transitional programming are key components of GCI’s commitment to reducing recidivism. The Sherwood Anderson School’s Transitional Educational Programming bridges the gap between incarceration and living in the community by utilizing technology, education, and community resources for successful reintegration into society. When it comes to educational programming and inmate rehabilitation, GCI has much to offer.
