Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction
Assists Counties with Flood Relief

(Columbus) --- On behalf of the employees of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), Director Reginald A. Wilkinson presented Belmont and Noble County Commissioners with checks totaling $12,000.   The monies were raised after Director Wilkinson declared the week of July 5, 1998, "DRC Flood Relief Week."  Employees were able to "dress down" and donate $10 toward the flood relief effort.  Donations were collected from all 30 prisons, 8 parole offices, and central office.  The total amount collected was $20,000.  Donations were made to employees who lost property in the flood totaling $8,000.

"In keeping with our pledge to be good neighbors to counties where we have institutions, we are pleased to be able to make these contributions to Belmont and Noble counties," said Wilkinson.  "I applaud our employees who are known for their generosity toward people in need."

In addition to monies raised, inmate work crews removed debris from creek beds and roadways.  Inmate work crews will also be involved in rebuilding playgrounds and restoring parks that were ravaged by the floods.
