OHIO PAROLE BOARD BEGINS OPEN HEARING PROCESS

(Columbus) -- The Ohio Parole Board today announced that they will hold Ohio's first open full Parole Board hearings on September 6, 1996, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Emergency Operations Center in Columbus, Ohio. Four cases will be reviewed: Domingo Moreno is serving a life sentence for aggravated murder from Hancock County; William Haller is serving a nine to 25 year sentence for the crime of rape from Hamilton County; Steven Grider is serving a five to 25 year sentence for rape from Warren County; and Gregory White is serving a five to 25 year sentence for the crimes of sexual battery, kidnapping, forgery, and theft from Cuyahoga County.

Whenever an offender is recommended for parole, any Parole Board member, hearing officer, or member of the staff of the Office of Victim Services may petition the Parole Board for a full board hearing. Petitions are completed by the Office of Victim Services and must be submitted to the Parole Board chairperson before the prisoner has been released. The Parole Board will vote to grant or to deny the petition and is not subject to appeal.

Full Board hearings may be attended by the sentencing judge (or successor), prosecuting attorney of the county of indictment, any law enforcement agency(s) that assisted in the prosecution, the victim or victim representative, the inmate representative, and members of the news media. The inmate will not be present at Full Parole Board hearings.

Notices for future hearings and their locations will be available in the County Clerk of Court's Office in the sentencing county of the inmate. The notices will be sent 45 days prior to the hearing.

Media must notify the Public Information Office at 614-752-1150 a minimum of five business days prior to the hearing. The media from the sentencing county will have first priority.
