Ohio Prisons Chief Release 10 Point Plan on Sexual Assault Abatement

(COLUMBUS)---   Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) Director Reginald A. Wilkinson today released the Ohio Correctional Institutions Sexual Assault Abatement: A Ten Point Plan detailing the Department’s efforts to prevent the sexual assault of inmates in Ohio prisons.

“DRC has always had a zero tolerance for sexual abuse of inmates, by either staff or by other prisoners,” Wilkinson said.  “The provisions included in this Ten Point Plan will strengthen and codify the policies and procedures related to inmate sexual assault.   DRC will aggressively pursue anyone – staff or inmate - who victimizes others.”

Director Wilkinson also announced the formation of an oversight committee to coordinate and monitor the implementation of the Ten Point Plan.  The committee will be responsible for continually evaluating the plan’s provisions and seeking new methods of combating inmate sexual abuse, as well as ensuring Ohio’s compliance with all provisions of the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act.  DRC, furthermore, plans to work closely with the Ohio State Patrol and county prosecutors to seek indictments on violators.
