The Robert S. Merrill School operates on the grounds of the Northeast Pre-Release Center (NEPRC), located in Cleveland, Ohio. NEPRC houses an average of 570 minimum and medium security inmates. The NEPRC Robert S. Merrill School is proud to commit to the following educational programs:
The NEPRC Robert S. Merrill School offers Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Educational Development (GED) and Pre-GED classes. NEPRC also offers an Employability class and the Transitional Education Program (TEP) for inmates being released. NEPRC offers two Career-Technical programs: Administrative Office Technology (AOT) and Horticulture. NEPRC also offers C-Tech, which is a short-term Career-Technical program. Advanced Job Training is offered through Youngstown State University for those inmates who qualify. NEPRC also offers four apprenticeship programs: Cook, Building Maintenance Repairer, Animal Trainer, and Horticulture. These programs are certified through the US Department of Labor. The Robert Merrill School offers Special Education to inmates under the age of 22, and also offers Pro Literacy Tutor Training to inmates.
The Northeast Pre-Release Center provides a full service library that is available to inmates seven days a week. Each housing unit has a dorm library that is available to inmates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A law library is also available to inmates who may need assistance with legal work.
